West Norfolk produces 10 county champions

A total of West Norfolk County champions were crowned at the annual Norfolk County Outdoor Athletics Championships.The weather was fine for the event at Norwich with conditions hot at times.But the weather was not as hot as the performances of the 25 West Norfolk athletes from across all the age ranges and event categories that entered.There were also nine silver and 10 bronze medalists from the club, many personal best performances achieved, and records equalled over a fantastic weekend of athletics.Under-11 boy James Watts was first in the 300m in 1m53.7sec with a personal best performance and a club record.U13 boy Luke Anderson was first in the 200m final in 28.0sec and second in the long jump in 4.15m (both PBs).U13 boy Matas Petreikis was first in the long jump 4.28m and first in the 75m hurdles with 14.7sec (PB). U13 boy Rhys Howard was 11th in the long jump 3.03m (PB) with Wilf Gosnell third in the discus with 12.17m.U15 boy Aidan Howard was third in the 800m in 2m38.6sec (PB) and U17 Charlie Frammingham was third in the 3000m race in 9m.48.0sec. U17 Alfie Bone was first in the high jump with 1.70 (PB) and seventh in the 400m in 59.6sec.U17 second claim Charlie Broad threw a PB in the shot of 12.99m, just 1cm short of England Schools qualifying standard. U20 Thomas O’Neill was third in the 200m 24.6sec and third in the 400m 55.7sec (both PBs).Senior Charlie Williams was first in the discus with 35.69m (season’s best) and brother Alfie Williams was first in the senior shot with 14.47m. Sen men’s athlete Chris Elmer was fifth in the 1500m in 4m34.8sec.Sen T20/F20 athlete Cameron Ross was first in the long jump 4.32m and the 100m in 13.8sec (season best). M40 Thomas Collison was first in the javelin with 21.56m, first in the shot, 7.16m, second in the hammer 18.18m and second in the discus with 16.60m (all PBs).M40 Adam Howard was first in the discus with 19.42m (PB). M40 Ben Collison was second in the shot (5.11m), second in the javelin 13.44m, and third in the discus 13.54m after equaling his PB.U13 girl Myley Gilboy was fifth in the 200m final in 29.0 (PB) after a fine run in her heat and fifth in the 100m in 14.6sec and fifth in the shot with 4.73m.U15 girl Rebecca Johnson was first in the 75m hurdles, equaling her PB and club record in 11.7sec, and set a new PB in the 300m for second in 44.7sec.U15 girl Anya Fairthorn was third in the javelin with 20.07m (PB) and U17W Evie Clayton was second in the 3000m in 12m25.8sec.Senior woman Hannah Greenhalgh, ran the 400m for first place in 60.2sec (PB) and was third in the 200m in 27.4sec.SenW Lucy Edwards had her second-best performance in the Long Jump this season finishing 3rd with a 4.92m leap.SenW (T20/F20) athlete Lily Edwards threw a new PB in the shot of 4.31m to finish second and joined GB shot put ace Sophie McKinna on the podium.M50 Nicky Neill was first in the 800m with 2m41.3sec while M40 Jen Gosnell had a marvellous discus for second place with a 16.01m throw.The championships were an all-around success, and it was good to see so many West Norfolk Athletes competing and coming through as some of the county’s best.As always, a massive shout-out must go to all the officials, volunteers, parents, and coaches who helped to make the event run so efficiently.Without their efforts and hard work, there would be no championship for athletes to be part of.
