Heacham boss Paul Hunt won’t be afraid to give any of the club’s young guns a chance to shine on the big stage as the club prepares for their opening game of the season tomorrow. The Magpies are likely to have several players missing as Walsham le Willows visit in the Thurlow Nunn Premier Division. The suspended Nathan Davies is the most notable absentee for Hunt’s new-look squad while several players are also nursing knocks.Looking ahead to the club’s opening fixture, Hunt said: “We do have several injuries, holidays and suspensions carried over from last season in the first three weeks of the season.”This means that this part of the season will be an early test for the players but we have some great under-18s to come in and support the first team during this time.”The new Magpies chief has been happy with how his new summer signings have settled into the squad.”We have had a good pre-season apart from two teams letting us down in friendlies which is not ideal,” he said. “The players are gelling together really well and are starting to form a real team mentality. Looking forward to both fixtures, against two good sides that will be a real test for us. Hunt wants his players to send out a message to the other Thurlow Nunn sides about Station Road being an unlikely source of points.”You always want to do well at home and make it a tough place for teams to visit,” he said.”That will be our aim, make it a difficult place for teams to visit. We know what we want to do this season but that stays between our group. After almost a year out of the game, Hunt is delighted to be back in the football mix.”It has been a busy start, sorting everything out for the team but I’m really enjoying working with this group of players,” he said.”My aim is always looking to prepare well and perform well in the next game. It is a strong league as you can see several teams who have been getting stronger and building over the last few seasons.”
