West Norfolk BMX star picks up fourth European title

Multiple title-winner Alan Hill delivered another impressive performance to claim his fourth European crown at the weekend.And the West Norfolk family’s success didn’t stop there as son Jared picked up a podium spot the following day in a memorable 48 hours of action.Both Alan and Jared were competing in the UEC BMX European Championships in Verona, Italy.With championship titles on the line, both father and son had trained hard towards this event in Verona, especially Jared who has been trying to navigate training and exam revision.The event took place over five days with two days of practice and three days of racing.First up was Alan on the Friday racing in the 50 and over Cruiser men class.Alan put in a commanding performance, winning all of his laps up to and including the final to seal yet another triumph. Another excellent title to add to his long list of career titles, spanning 42 years in BMX.Saturday was Jared’s turn with racing being televised internationally due to the professional level of racing (Juniors, U23s and Elites, also known as championship classes) but the 15s and 16s were included. The West Norfolk youngster raced very well through the qualifying rounds and with a second in the semi-final he made it through to his first European Championships final.He remained fully focused to book himself a place on the podium with a bronze medal in the 16 boys – an incredible result proving that hard work and commitment do pay off.
