Under-13 rugby players from West Norfolk travelled to Ely on Sunday to play their first fixture of the new year in perfect conditions. Both sides delivered a high level of intensity with Ely quickly attacking the wings and breaking free but the hosts were stopped by Harry Martyn in front of the West supporters, which set the tone for what was to come. The first half was fairly even with an excellent display of rucking and the difference came in the way of Freddie Farr, whose constant barrage of attack and defence ensured West controlled the game.Almost all of Ely’s attacks were met by West Norfolk’s Ben Taylor-Bunting who dominated the back line. The first half ended 3-1 to West with everything still to play for but overall West’s tremendous team effort was taken into the second half and they emerged 9-1 victors.Try scorers: Harry Carman, Flynn Jackson-Hopps, Charlie Cook, Finely Smith-Parry, Freddie Farr (3), Jack Godfrey-Leggett (2)Forward of the Match: Freddie Farr; Back of the Match: Ben Taylor-Bunting; Coaches Player of the Match: Charlie Cook; Opposition Man of the match Freddie Farr.
