King’s Lynn Speedway have decided to postpone Thursday’s (May 9) home fixture against Leicester. The decision has been taken due to issues of rider unavailability which would have left the PSH Environmental Stars tracking an under-strength line-up for reasons totally out of the club’s control. The situation has arisen due to the late arrangement of the four qualifying meetings for the Polish Individual Championship, which have all been scheduled for this Thursday – which is an agreed UK race night. There was no indication of this date being utilised in Poland when the UK fixture list was agreed and logged last December, and even as recently as the end of last week, the Polish events did not appear on the international calendar.A statement from the club read: “Naturally had the club been aware of these meetings at the time our own fixture list was compiled, we would not have been looking to stage a home match on this date. “We have been in dialogue with British Speedway Promoters’ Ltd and the Premiership CEO over recent days, but all attempts to resolve the issue have proved unsuccessful.”This is not due to any lack of effort or communication from British Speedway, who have explored all of the avenues available to them. “The decision to take became a simple one of whether it would be fair to expect our supporters, following an exciting home win last Thursday, to pay to watch a weakened team race against Leicester, and whether that, in turn, would make any sort of business sense.”We do not believe it would be fair, nor would it make business sense, and we have been fully up-front with the views we have expressed to the sport’s authorities. “We all accept injuries can and do happen, and on occasions, clubs will be disadvantaged with a lack of available guests – as was the case for ourselves at Ipswich on Monday.”But this is rider unavailability for a different reason with international fixtures inserted into the calendar at short notice which have a direct effect on our club. “We have to make it clear therefore that the injury suffered by Tobiasz Musielak last Thursday is irrelevant in the context of this situation, as we had already been informed that he would be required to miss the Leicester meeting, and talks on the subject had already commenced prior to his accident.”We apologise to all supporters and also to Leicester Speedway for the inconvenience of this postponement, and subject to confirmation we expect to re-stage this meeting on Monday, July 1 (7.30pm).”The next fixture at the Adrian Flux Arena will be the re-staging of the Stars v Sheffield match on Thursday, May 16.
