Marshland St James’ Jenson Sayell was back on form at Kimbolton kart circuit for Round 4 of the HKRC Championship at the weekend.Not finishing lower than third all day, the 10-year-old saw off strong competition to take his Minimax 950 kart to a podium in the final and was the second-highest points scorer.Saturday practice was dry and after a complete engine rebuild the aim was to run in the engine and achieve optimum kart set-up. They achieved both with the help of sponsor InfinityX Motorsport’s expertise throughout the weekend.The improvement in Sayell’s pace was obvious in timed practice, qualifying second.In Heat 1 Sayell took the lead from Lorne on the first corner but both were soon overtaken by Hinds. Sayell held on to second, pressuring the more experienced Hinds all through the race but unable to find a way past. Just 0.06 seconds apart over the line, they finished two seconds ahead of third. This put Sayell on the outside front row for the start of Heat 2. Overtaken by Wheatley on the first corner, Sayell again slotted in behind Hinds, in third place. Nose to tail, the front three pulled out a 2.3 second lead by the flag.Sayell qualified second on the outside front row for the final alongside Hinds with Lorne and Fisher behind. Sayell was held wide on the start, dropping to fourth but passed Lorne and Moulton to regain second by lap four behind Hinds.Wheatley passed Sayell and Hinds in quick succession two laps later but despite pressure from Lorne, Sayell held on for a hard-earned third place podium. “We are really to pleased to have solved our engine issues this weekend, and very happy to see Jenson back on form,” said mechanic dad Rob. “InfinityX Motorsport’s Steve Cumber’s expertise helped us get the best from the engine, kart and Jenson’s driving.”Sayell thanked InfinityX Motorsport for their support and Force Motorsport/James Taylor Racing for rebuilding the engine in time for the round; his team TWR and sponsors JLK Vehicle Solutions, Ark East Anglia Ltd, and Professional Aesthetic Enhancements Kings Lynn plus Chris Phillips – Superstox 99 and Prestige Designs.Sayell’s next outing with be to Warden Law near Sunderland, a circuit he’s never raced on, for Round 3 of the Cadet Kart Championship.
