On a cold, windy track at Norwich Sportspark, several plucky Ryston juniors took part in the first of the Athletics Norfolk QuadKids series of 2024.The event featured, on the administration and officiating side, Rebecca Tuff and Lindsey Clare, who had both run in the London Marathon last year, worthy recipients of the club places, but happy to have a subsequent engagement this time round. This competition, which gives young athletes an early taste of track and field events, sees the younger age group run in 75m and 600m races, throw the vortex howler, and score in the standing long jump, with the older age group running 100m and 800m and completing standard long jumps as well as also throwing the vortex howler.Freddie Hubbard secured himself third place in a closely-fought Yr4/5 boys competition, in which Isaac Western was placed 12th and Joshua Downing 14th.Riley Price was sixth and Rhys Howard 19th in the Yr6/7 category. The Yr 4/5 girls competition featured Bonnie Norman- Foulkes in 20th, Maya Marcinek 22th, and Freya Reynolds 30th, while Courtney Price was placed joint 10th in the Yr6/7 competition.Meanwhile, choosing an alternative venue and event altogether, four Ryston Runners members went to the Barningham Estate in North Norfolk for the Little Lifts Trail Running Events. Lynne Howlett had opted for the 10k, in which she was third F60 in 63:38. Julia Norman was 35th overall in the 20k event, fourth F40, in 2:01:58 and Juliette Meek was eighth in the same category, 55th overall, in 2:14:50.Separating them, Mark Doughty, 48th and, neatly also eighth in his M40 category, finished in 2:09:19.
