Ryston trio pick up awards

Three Ryston Runners members received recognition at the Athletics Norfolk Awards.Lindsey Clare received the Official of the Year Trophy for volunteering across a variety of events as a starter, field and track judgeMartin and Marlene Simmonds were awarded the Fred Barwick Services to Sport Trophy in recognition of their involvement in the sport among numerous roles for both Ryston and the county since 1990.Also on the awards list was Gaye Clarke, one of those named as an ‘Unsung Hero’, mainly for all the hours she has spent as a timekeeper at various events, in between competing in them herself.Clarke was unavailable to receive her award as she was in Torun at the European Masters Indoor Championships in the W60 60m hurdles, high jump and long jump. Ceri Howell took part in the cross country and then added to those competitors from the championships swelling the numbers in the local Parkrun.The most successful championships experience was that of Chris Palmer, who made the finals of the M70 200m and 400m and was part of the GB70 mixed relay squad that took silver medals in the 4x200m and chopped more than five seconds off the previous GB record.
