Grimston CC travelled to The Memorial Ground to face a strong Snettisham side in the Kevin Grimmer Division of the Norfolk Sunday Cricket League.Captain Mark Tilbrook won the toss and elected to bat first, opening with Mark Pickering and Dave Persey; both were in blistering form and powered their way to 31 and 45 runs respectively. Pickering was bowled by James Hearmon and Persey by Danny Suckling.Liam Burt was next to the crease and scored a respectable 13 runs, with Darryl Munday adding a further 13. Grimston finished their innings of 40 overs with a defendable 137 runs for 7 wickets lost. Charlie Lavvaf topped the bowling figures for Snettisham with two wickets and an economy of 0.4.Snettisham took to the field with Jamie Wing and Charlie Lavvaf opening the batting. Grimston made an early breakthrough with Lavvaf dismissed for a duck by Harry Ward; however, this brought Dan Fuller to the crease who bludgeoned his way to 51 runs off only 25 balls.By the time Fuller was finally out, caught behind by Mark Pickering from the bowling of Mark Tilbrook, Snettisham had made short work of Grimston’s total. Jamie Wing scored 52 to complete the victory with the match finished within 22 overs. Harry Ward was the pick of the bowlers with two wickets.Captain Tilbrook was philosophical, saying: “Snettisham have just come down from the league above and we know how strong their side is. There were some good performances from the Grimston team and plenty of positives to take.”Grimston are at home on both Saturday and Sunday this weekend as the Saturday side continues their promotion push against Denver 2nd and the Sunday side host Fakenham for the first time in many years.Got a sports story?
