Norwich Dragons 0 Pelicans 7Pelicans moved eight points clear and at the top of East Men’s Division One North with a convincing win away at struggling Norwich Dragons on Saturday. The leaders handed a debut to young teenager Thomas Anderson, who was very impressive.Pelicans took the lead when a pass from Kirwin Christoffels found its way across the D to left-back Chris Page whose shot took a slight deflection but still beat the home goalkeeper.Captain Sam Phillips carried in his excellent run of form by making the score 2-0 with a fine individual effort. The visitors attempted to threaten but they were firmly denied by Sam Major, Iain Page and Chris Page.Goalkeeper Dan Upton had a very quiet afternoon and will be very pleased to have picked up another clean sheet. The longer the game went on the better Pelicans got and the more they began to strut their stuff.Ian Simons made it 3-0 after being set up by Harry Sampson and Phillips then scored his second to make it 4-0 before completing his hat-trick soon afterwards, with perhaps the pick of the bunch.A fine team move which started at the back, found Kirwin Christoffels and Jack Major who pulled the strings all game in the midfield.Sam Major pushed forward from right-back, as he did all afternoon in what was his best game of the season, and received the ball just outside the D.He skilfully flicked a pass to the debutant Anderson who slammed across an excellent cross for Phillips to finish.Pelicans’ final two goals were scored by Sampson, both from close range, the second of which was set up brilliantly by George Van Aalst who, on another day, could have easily bagged himself a hat-trick and looked back on form.Pelicans host Peterborough 2nds on Saturday – a team whom Pelicans beat in the return fixture earlier in the season when both sides were unbeaten at the top of the league.Another exciting game is expected with Pelicans looking to further cement their place at the of the table.
