Pelicans Hockey Club hosted the U10s In2Hockey Norfolk County Championship at Alive Lynnsport.Teams from Dereham, Harleston Magpies, North Norfolk, Norwich City, Norwich Dragons and Pelicans battled it out and some really good hockey was played throughout the day.The Norfolk champions and runners-up of the competition proceeded to the final round; which will be the In2Hockey East Regional Competition, hosted by Magpies at the end of April.Magpies were the overall winners in both the boys’ and girls’ sections with Norwich City runners-up in the former and Derham runners-up in the latter.Pelicans are grateful to Ben Allen of Allen Tomas and Co Financial Management for being the main sponsor for the junior section and the 4 Way Group as the main page sponsor of the schedule/results app from Sporty Software Solutions. The day was organised by Marelize Verdoes, junior club captain, with plenty of volunteers who made it a great team effort.Tracy Bower, Stuart Olley and Lorraine Millard looked after the clubhouse kitchen, while Judith Stout and Jamie Ring manned the Squad Shack pitchside.Rachel Hobbs took charge of the admin side, Juan Verdoes looked after timekeeping and the trio of Henry Ashby, Toby Ring and Phillippa Hingley collected the scores.Sally Woolstenholmes photographed the day’s proceedings while Dave Gilbert, Katie Hingley, Dominic Chandler, Ruth Griggs, Lee Dowers, David Griggs and Woolstenholmes all contributed to pitch set-up, putting up the gazebo and other small jobs. And last but the most appreciated job was all the young umpires, that are currently part of East Hockey Officiating, that umpired the whole day under the guidance of the East Hockey officiating’s coaches.Thank you to this organisation that makes it possible for young leaders to progress in their umpire journey.
