Magical Matas is a multiple county champion

Matas Petreikis had a day to remember at the Norfolk Sportshall Championships after being crowned county champion in all four events that he entered.Petreikis delivered an outstanding display on his way to a clean sweep of successes in the two-lap hurdles, long jump, triple jump and vertical jump.The event – held at the UEA in Norwich – saw West Norfolk Athletics Club members claim multiple county successes, along with loads of personal bests and gutsy performances.

Athletes can enter up to four events across any of the Sportshall disciplines available for their ages.In the under-11s, Lauren Lawrence and Jessica Watts were active again.Watts debuted with a great throw in the foam javelin, and also participated in the two-lap, taking to it with ease.Lawrence, meanwhile, took on the two and four-lap, the standing long jump and the vertical jump.Both girls held their own as two of the youngest athletes on the day.

Sofia Gilboy achieved PBs in both her chest push and long jump of 1m64 and was crowned Norfolk champion in the vertical jump with a jump of 40cm.For the U11 boys, Samuel Howard took part in the foam javelin and was a fantastic fourth in the long jump with 1m89, only narrowly missing out on a podium place.James Watts missed out on the six-lap final by a fraction of a second, finishing seventh overall. He was also placed fifth in the speed bounce.In the U13s, Myley Gilboy bagged herself a big PB in the shot with 5m98 and had great runs in the 2 and four-lap races.

Jessica Lawrence

Jessica Lawrence was sixth in the long jump with 2m01, seventh in the speed bounce, and took to the track for the two-lap.In what was one of the most exciting races of the day and to close the competition, Lawrence took the Norfolk title in the six-lap with a close finish and an excellent display of pacing.In the U13 boys, Luke Anderson achieved a bronze in the six-lap, again a close finish, and a PB in the triple jump.Miller Crane got a PB in the two-lap for ninth place and was fifth in the four-lap.Wilf Gosnell was fifth in the speed bounce with 59 and sixth in the vertical jump.Aidan Howard was fourth in the long jump with 2m18 and qualified for the two-lap final, finishing in fifth place.Charlie Broad, in the U15s, had another hugely successful day, with three county titles to his name.He won the four-lap in an exhilarating race, the speed bounce with 80 bounces and the shot with a big 11m41 throw.He added to his medal tally with a silver in the long jump with 2m59.
