King’s Lynn Town manager Adam Lakeland was again full of praise for his team’s defensive display after a 1-1 draw at Alfreton on Tuesday night.Cameron Hargreaves put the visitors ahead after 19 minutes before home substitute Jake Day earned his side a point with an equaliser 16 minutes from time.Alfreton’s leveller denied the Linnets a third away victory on the bounce, but Lakeland’s side are now unbeaten in their last five games with just one defeat in eight.More importantly, they remain just above the drop zone with Banbury United dropping into the bottom four following a 3-0 home defeat to Peterborough Sports while Rushall Olympic boosted their survival hopes with a 4-1 at Farsley Celtic.Speaking after the game, Lakeland said: “It was a really tough game and I thought we were outstanding defensively.“We were tremendous with commitment, organisation and lads putting their bodies on the line, even right up to the end there Kian (Ronan) made an outstanding block.”I felt we managed to keep a real threatening team to very few clear-cut opportunities, they just got loose for the equaliser and that has denied us all three points but this is a tough place to come and I think we’ve got to be satisfied with the point.”We’ve shown a lot of spirit, a lot of character and grit. It was a really good defensive performance but in the first 20 minutes of the second half some of our play was outstanding and their goalkeeper has made a brilliant save to his right to deny Ben Stephens at 1-0 and I thought that was a big moment.”I thought the whole team showed a great work ethic, spirit and resilience to put their bodies on the line for one another.”Next up for Lynn is a home clash against South Shields on Saturday.Alfreton: Willis, Lund, Wiley, Thewlis (Day 61), Cantrill, Walduck, Perritt, Brisley, Fewster (Clackstone 46), Newall, McDonagh.
