Former Linnets midfielder Danny White has been named the new assistant manager at Thurlow Nunn Premier Division Downham Town.White arrives at the Norfolk Senior Cup winners following the departure of joint boss Craig Dickson, who stepped down from his position earlier this month after five-and-a-half years at the club.Manager Dale Stokes said: “I’m really pleased to bring Danny into the football club.”We were aware that he was looking to take on a managerial role somewhere after the unfortunate circumstances at Norwich CBS, but thankfully he’s decided to come to Downham as an assistant, despite interest from other clubs.”Aside from his experience in management, he comes to us with several years of playing at a decent level, in this league and higher. Having someone who knows the levels is always handy.“Recruiting players has always been my thing really and Danny has plenty of contacts as well so that should set us up nicely on that side of it too.”We’ve come across each other a few times in recent years and it’s always been evident how committed and enthusiastic he is with football. “After speaking to a few people they only had positive things to say. So we are looking forward to getting him involved.”The 40-year-old is well known locally having plied his trade as a midfielder with King’s Lynn, Wroxham, Diss and Norwich United. He also had spells with professional clubs Norwich City, Dagenham & Redbridge and Cambridge United as a youngster.White spent four years as a manager with Thetford Town and was more recently boss at Norwich CBS in the Thurlow Nunn First Division North. He guided the Brecklanders to a seventh-placed finish in the 2016-17 campaign and in each of the two subsequent seasons Town reached a significant cup final – first in the Thurlow Nunn League Challenge and then in the Norfolk Senior Cup.On his appointment at the Memorial Field, White said: “I’m happy to be given the opportunity to work with Dale and an already successful side. I’m looking forward to the challenge.”
