Denver Cricket Club’s under-9s capped off a remarkable season by finishing runners-up in the county softball finals at Horsford yesterday.
The youngsters, who first came together just three years ago through the All Stars and Dynamos coaching programmes, produced a string of impressive performances to reach the final of the competition.
On their way to the showpiece match, Denver swept aside Grimston, Great Witchingham and Great Melton, showing the same confidence and skill that had already brought them two tournament victories earlier in the season.
Their winning run was halted in the final by hosts Horsford, but the silver medal finish marks a proud achievement for the squad and the club.
For many of the players, the campaign has been another step in a rapid rise through junior cricket.
What began as an introduction to the game has quickly developed into a competitive and successful side.
With the move now into under-11s softball and hardball competitions, the team will look to continue its development and test itself against stronger opposition.
Club officials and coaches hailed the progress of the group, praising not just their results but also the enthusiasm and commitment they have shown on and off the field.
