Young guns helping Linnets through tough times

Leading King’s Lynn Town through their current period of transition has been tough for manager Mark Hughes – but it is something the Linnets boss has relished with so much young talent at his disposal.

Ben Isaacson – after making his senior debut against Farsley Celtic at the weekend – featured in the 2-2 draw against Brackley Town on Tuesday night, while fellow Academy product Charlie Royle came on for a 15-minute cameo against the Saints.

Both players have come through the AcademyHughes said: “I had six or seven starters that haven’t been involved in the squad tonight, so for these boys to get a chance is really pleasing for me as I now know that I’ve got 21 players who can play for me on any given occasion.

“I’m really pleased for the younger lads as I feed off their energy. I see them in training and I told them they were going to get their chance and they’ve taken it.

“It’s good throwing the youngsters in as you don’t know what they are going to give you. Ben Isaacson made his debut and improved tonight, we’ve got Ismael (Fatjado).

“The chairman loves that we’ve got young talented players coming through. Emmanuel (Oke) is another one, he looked like he’s played 100 games out there for us tonight.

“The fans also like to see homegrown players coming through. We’ve had two players who have come through the Academy start on the same night, which is great.”

Hughes hopes to have some of have a number of players back off the treatment table for tomorrow’s home National League North game against Southport and the FA Cup tie against Aveley on Saturday week.

“We’re hopeful that one or two of the injured lads will be alright for Saturday and then we should have three or four back for the following weekend,” he said.
