Super One InterMax champion Jenson Sayell took another podium at the weekend in the Kart Championship Winter Warmer event at Whilton Mill. The team did not test on Friday so had just one test on Saturday before the qualifying session. The Marshland St James driver qualified fifth but had some handling issues.Despite adjustments to the kart, the handling issues continued in Heat One.Starting fifth, the youngster was held wide on the first corner and dropped to seventh. He was fifth by lap four and up another place a lap later but was unable to progress any further finishing fourth. With more set-up changes Sayell was able to stay in the front end of the field but was fifth until the last lap when he was able to overtake for another fourth.Saturday’s results saw Sayell start fourth in Sunday’s Super Heat. Another frantic start saw him squeezed off track on the second corner but he regained fourth place on the same lap and moved up to third on lap three. A race-long battle ensued with the top three nose-to-tail to the flag.Despite several attempts to pass, Sayell finished third but was promoted to second after post-race penalties.Having qualified second Sayell started the trophy Final on the front row but was outpowered on the start with two karts going through dropping him to fourth. It took four laps to get up to third, by which time the two lead karts had pulled out a gap at the front. Sayell was under intense pressure for the remaining eleven laps but held his nerve to take the third step on the podium.Sayell’s dad Rob said: “I think Jenson did very well at Whilton Mill, up against works team drivers who race there each month. We weren’t able to test on Friday due to commitments which put us on the back foot for set up. “On Sunday morning we made some changes to the front end of the kart and carburettor jetting and the pace was back. Jenson always gives 100 per cent and deserved to get on the podium.”The team will soon need to consider what championships to compete in next year and would be pleased to hear from any local companies who would like to join JLK Vehicle Solutions, Ark East Anglia Ltd, Hall Clean, Professional Aesthetic Enhancements Kings Lynn and Sun Lounge in supporting Sayell in 2025. Sayell thanks his team TWRacing, GW Driver Development and Force Motorsport for their support at the weekend. His next outing will be at Kimbolton in two weeks.
