West Norfolk youngsters progress in County Cup

Under-14 players from West Norfolk maintained their hold over Norfolk rivals Holt to progress in the County Cup on Sunday.Holt hosted the Norfolk County Cup clash against West Norfolk and was seeking redemption from the last time these clashed.The host outfit started strongly from the kick-off and West Norfolk battled hard defending their line for most of the first half.Some tactical changes from the visitors, inspired their team to spread the ball swiftly with style from a lineout, setting Ben Taylor-Bunting on his way to sidestepping the home defence with an impressive 50-yard dash.He was rewarded with a try and conversion to break the deadlock.With a reignited confidence from the visitors, the play became more open and a very persistent and determined Holt took advantage of stealing the ball to score.West, again on the back foot, succumbed to Holt’s attack, conceding another try and went into the half-time break behind. The West Norfolk coaching team rallied their team and the boys responded with a convincing battle cry which echoed around all of Holt. Immediately from the kick-off, West upped the intensity and took charge of the game.Holt were now being pushed back with West keeping possession and it was not long before the ball got wide to Kody Sommerton to score a brace in quick succession.The visitors were now in control as they edged in front. Wes Norfolk’s front-row powerhouse Dexter Anderson smashed his way through to score a well-deserved try.Victory for the visitors was secured with a further two tries from both wingers Simon Rodrigues and Finley Smith-Parry, backed by Taylor-Bunting coolly converting to seal a 38-19 victory for the visitors.Man of the Match Ben Taylor Bunting.Thank you to match sponsors RBC Roofing.
