West Norfolk youngsters pick up Athletics Norfolk accolades

Two West Norfolk athletes have been recognised at the Athletics Norfolk annual awards.

Mia Lesniak and Alfie Williams both scooped honours as many of the club’s athletes were nominated in tough competition.

Lesniak took home the award for under-13 girls’ field performance after her outstanding season with the discus, with a season best of 22m88.

She broke the club record multiple times as well as earning the highest level AAA award, level 1, and ranking 18th in the country for her age.

Another thrower and talented all round athlete, Williams won the U20 male field performance.

Williams has been one of the county’s finest shot putters from an early age.

Last year he broke both the club and county records on more than one occasion with an outstanding 15.32 as his best performance for the year, putting him in the top 10 for his age in the UK.

The youngster also finished on the podium with bronze in the Welsh Athletics Junior Championships in August.

It’s great to see some amazing performances by club members deservedly recognised.

It’s been a week of endurance for West Norfolk Athletic Club with multiple long distance events happening over the weekend, in the run up to the marathon season.

Junior runner Dom Marray-Woods was in speedy action at the Thorney 10k, taking exactly four minutes off his personal best after all his hard training with a brilliant sub-40 finish in 39.34.

Over in Germany, Martin Koenigsberger ran the Feiburg half marathon in 1hour 43, which was topped off by a recovery table full of beer at the end.

Chris Elmer was back on the road racing for his first in a while and completed the Fleet half marathon in a blistering 76.07, just a fraction off his half PB.

Multiple runners were out in force at the Wymondham 20 miler, which brought some unpleasant weather conditions and wind to contend with on the course.

Despite having a bit of a painful set-back on his way round, Ben Collison powered on and finished in 2.18.50, ten minutes faster than his 20 mile best.

He was closely followed by Phil Kitney in 2.21.11 running his first 20 miler.

Likewise, Rob Gosnell nipped under the 3 hour marker in 2.55.31 and Tim Coates finished just behind in 3.09.23.
