West Norfolk Athletic Club youngster Evie Clayton continues to raise the bar for bigger and better things. The teenager took on the shorter distance at the Boston Marathon at the weekend.Clayton took on the 5k road race and bagged a second-place finish and first female.Finishing with an impressive 21:54 on a course slightly longer than 5k, Evie’s performances bode well for her future in the sport. The event, which hosted a marathon, half marathon and a five-kilometre race, was the victim to high winds and torrential rain. Brave athletes tackled the flooded roads and brutal winds of the exposed Lincolnshire landscape.Helen Garrett took on the half marathon distance, 13 miles of strong winds and water-logged country roads had runners having to run onto the verge of the roads. The conditions did not stop Helen from finishing strongly to a new PB by five minutes with a time of 2:10:17.Club members also continued in marathon mode at the weekend as they lined up for the Norfolk Marathon. First across the line was Ben Collison, who proved that his best miles are still ahead of him with a time of 3:23:21 and claiming himself a brand new personal best in the process.Collison had been battling an ongoing Achilles tendon issue in the weeks prior, this added to the difficult conditions made this performance very satisfying. Next over the line was former WNAC chairman Gavin Lane who was completing his fourth marathon.Finishing with a sub-four-hour effort and a finish time of 3:57:33.A sub-four marathon is a tough barrier to break especially considering the weather conditions and terrain.
