In a game of grit, skill, and adaptation, West Norfolk found their stride when it mattered most, outclassing Thurston in punishing conditions to continue their winning streak. The match began in truly awful conditions, with the wind howling, rain lashing, and the pitch more mud than grass. West Norfolk played uphill and into the elements in the first half, a challenge Thurston capitalised on early. The home side opened the scoring with a converted try, driving over after sustained pressure and use of their big ball carriers.West Norfolk’s response was clinical.Amidst the swirling rain, slick handling and support play sent Ethan Young over for his first try of the day – an early glimpse of what was to come.Despite Thurston dominating territory for large parts of the half, West Norfolk’s defence held firm under pressure, soaking up wave after wave of attacks.Thurston added a penalty and another try to their tally, but West Norfolk always looked a threat with the ball in hand. Two sensational long-range tries, built on sharp handling and deft offloading, showcased the visiting side’s danger on the counter attack. Layton Toll crossed for one, and Defensive Player of the Match – Alfie Woolcock announced himself in style with another, capping a fantastic first start in West colours.By half-time, West Norfolk had turned the tide, taking a 19-15 lead after finding their rhythm late in the half. The second half brought worsening conditions, with the goalposts swaying in the gale-force winds. Yet West Norfolk adapted brilliantly, dominating territory and making full use of the weather at their backs.A flurry of tries followed as the visitors turned the screw. George (G-Lem) Lemon produced a barnstorming solo effort, slicing through Thurston’s defence from long range with a combination of pace and power. Man of the Match Ethan Young wasn’t to be outdone, adding two more tries to complete a superb hat-trick.Substitute Josh Burgess also made his mark, diving over in the corner, for a deserved score to round off a commanding teamperformance and a 41-15 win.
