West Norfolk U14s hosted Fakenham for the opening game of the Norfolk Cup at Gatehouse Lane. This was West’s final match of the year and the air was filled with anticipation of what the game was going to gift the crowd.A solid start from Fakenham saw the West boys defending their try line.West fought back and held up the ball, triggering a counter-attack and try from captain Jack Godfrey-Leggett followed by a cool conversion from Ben Taylor-Bunting to settle the tension. The home side capitalised on their lead with Ethan Kilian threading his way through Fakenham’s defence as they tried to regroup.West found their groove with the forwards constantly overpowering the visitors, providing their teammates with a flurry of chances to spread the ball across the field for Theo Hobbs to grab a try between the posts for another conversion from Taylor-Bunting.With the game in West Norfolk’s full control, the first half was sealed with a 60-yard dash from Kilian to score and a conversion from Taylor-Bunting making it 31-0 before the break. In the second half, Fakenham came out with great spirit and managed to hold back the barrage, but it was not enough to stop Kelvin Jasionis charging through to score. West Norfolk’s home support was full of festive cheer helped by two tries from Godfrey-Leggett, both converted by Kilian, to end the year with an impressive victory with the final score 50-0 to West Norfolk.Man of the Match, awarded by the opposition, went to Thomas Hardy for his strong runs.Thank you to our match shirt sponsor JBC Roofing.
