Three West Norfolk Athletic Club youngsters took part in the national Sportshall finals. They qualified as part of the Norfolk teams in the regional rounds with Under-13s and above going through to the national stage. For the U13s, Luke Anderson and Matas Petreikis both had a brilliant day with Petreikis jumping 2.31 for fifth in the long jump, and Anderson finishing third in the six-lap race.Norfolk’s U13 team came fifth nationally. In the U15s, Anya Faithon was equal-25th nationally after some great performances in the speed bounce (with a whopping 81), two-lap and the vertical jump in what was a brilliant end to the Sportshall season for the club’s athletes.Anderson was also busy again at the Loughborough open this weekend, alongside fellow sprinter Myley Gilboy and thrower Aflie Williams.Anderson and Gilboy both competed in the 100 and 200, with the former finishing in 12.87 and 26.94 with another sub-27 minute time. Gilboy had a great run in both with 14.71 and 30.52, not far off her 200 PB. Williams had a huge discus throw for a PB of 41.73m and a big shot too with a season’s best of 14m83.Some great season-opening performances bode well for the remainder of the summer. On the endurance front, several club athletes took to the Fakenham Easter Sunday fun runs. A notoriously difficult run, the races use the same 1k loop with a very long hill and the 5k runners do the same loop five times, which means a lot of weaving in and out of runners on different laps.Charlie Frammingham was fourth overall, a great result and encouraging for him with a brilliant time of 17.24. He was also the second U18.Henry Gosnell had a great run with 19.39 for 20th place while Digby Frammingham was fourth in his age group with a brisk 20.20. Aidan Howard ran with dad Adam and achieved a PB on the course of 22.33. Ryan Towsey also got himself a PB with 22m56.In the junior 1k, James Watts and Olivia Ord were respectively the first male and female, with Watts first overall. No times are given on the fun run.Jess Watts was the second girl and Rhys Howard was the third boy.Abe Gosnell ran with big brother Wilf and had a great run. Jacob Green ran well for what was a well-placed finish at only eight.Jacob’s little brother Charlie made his debut at three and all the 1k runners thoroughly enjoyed their chocolate egg at the finish. Many thanks to Active Fakenham for what is always a popular and fun event.
