Winter arrived at Gatehouse Lane on Sunday and brought with it an intriguing clash against Wymondham RFUC.West Norfolk’s U14 boys needed to be on top form to protect their undefeated run.A nervy start from both sides was quickly settled in the rucks from West Norfolk’s forwards Dexter Anderson (man of the match ) and Flynn Jackson-Hopps imposing superiority over the visitors. With the home side securing possession, it gave way to some slick passing which Simon Rodrigues capitalised on scoring the first try.The defensive play from both teams was tight and West had to be creative to break through.A well-crafted kick over the top was finished off by a Ben Taylor-Bunting try and conversion.Another excellent all-round performance from Finely Smith-Parry was rewarded with a hard-fought try for Ethan Kilian to convert just ahead of the break. Changes from both teams with Wymondham coming out on the front foot and opening up the field of play quickly dealt with when Taylor-Bunting stole the ball to go on a commanding run to score. Positive play and real determination from Wymondham grabbed a well-earned try and conversion.West continued to pressurise playing with high intensity, perfect conditions for Kilian to go on a darting run to score. For all of Wymondham’s efforts in amongst the rucks, they came off second best while West Norfolk’s Charlie Cook was on top form. Another try for Rodrigues to secure his brace gave his team a comfortable leadPatient play from Jack Godfrey-Leggett eventually saw his chance to do what he does best, a 60-yard stampeding run-scoring between the posts for Taylor-Bunting to convert easily. Now fully charged another try from Godfrey-Leggett and Taylor-Bunting saw the game end with an impressive victory for West 53-7.Thanks to match shirt sponsors JBC Roofing.
