West Norfolk debutants impress at Quadkids

West Norfolk Athletic Club had several debutants in the first Quadkids meeting of the season.Quadkids is a series for young athletes where they compete in four events, like a mini decathlon.The club’s junior athletes made a fantastic start to the season with some really good results.The aim of the series is for them to get an all-round experience of athletics and try all the events possible.With the county champs happening on the same day, it was just for U11s this time, but WNAC were well represented with 12 athletes, with many of those youngsters making their debut.Each athlete had to do a 600m run, a 75m sprint, a howler throw and a standing long jump.Previous Quadkids participants Kacey Gray, Teagan Thorne and Jess Watts all continued to build on their successes with improving scores and great performances. Watts picked up 155 points, 48 in 600m (2.22) and 39 in sprint (13.9) while Gray recorded her highest points in the sprint with 39 (13.1) and then the howler, 16.81 (33 points) with 134 points total. Thorne once again had her best points in the jump with a big 41 points (1.65m) and 36 in the sprint (13.6).Newcomers Meave Allit and Chloe Gayton had a great debut.Gayton collected 113 points and 37 were in the LJ (1m56) and 36 in the sprint (13.4) and Alitt picked up 106 points as one of the youngest participants with 32 in the 600(2.38) and 29 in the sprint (14.1). Arthur Hollingsworth ran his second 600m in as many days for his highest points of 64 with an impressive 2.05 with 62 points in the howler (31.16, 2nd place) with a big points total of 215.Mason Napthen, Tommy Keir, Charlie Dale, William Ward, Duncan Roney and Abe Gosnell all took part in their first Quadkids and there was a lot to be proud of. Naphen recorded a big 158 points, highest in 600m (2.26) and 41 in LJ (1.65) and Keir equalled his best events with 45 points in both the sprint (12.5) and howler (22.64) with 152 total.Dale also had a brilliant howler with 43 (21.90) and 2.32 in the 600 (38) and 135 total points. Ward, aged eight, ran 2.26 for 600 (43 points) and the howler was his next best with 38 (19.23 and 133 points overall).Roney had his best results with a great jump of 1.55 for 36 points, followed up by 13.7 sprint (33) and 125 points overall.Gosnell rounded off the participants as one of the younger ones as well, with his best result in the LJ of 33 (1.48) and 27 in the howler (13.59).There are four meetings left this season for youngsters to work on personal bests.If you’re interested in quad kids for your child, go to the Athletics Norfolk website and browse fixtures for the dates and information.
