West Norfolk athletes clocked some extremely quick times at the eagerly awaited Wroxham 5k.

The event took place on a fast, flat and PB potential course, which sells out in under 20 minutes every year.

The anticipation levels were high with many of the club’s athletes looking to hit PBs or certain goals after months of training.

Pleasingly, plenty of athletes did indeed hit those targets and the club’s junior runners also had a fantastic evening on what is a very daunting course, packed with 1000 runners and people lining the streets.

The winning runner finished the course in 14.27, showing the calibre of athletes taking part.

Cal Stanforth was first home with 16.32, swiftly followed by Arran Reeve, running a road PB of 16.41.

Promising young athlete Charlie Frammingham came storming in in 16.47, helping clubmate Karl Brown to his first sub-17 5k chasing him down with 16.49.

Lewis English also broke that magic 17min barrier with 16.59, all of them pleased after all of the effort that has gone towards that target.

Two more road PBs followed with 15-year-old Henry Gosnell going sub 18 for the first time in 17.51 and M50 athlete Neil Stapleton running a blinding 18.06.

Oliver Foxwell had a cracking run and is solidly running around that 18.30 mark with 18.39.

William Hayes debuted at Wroxham with a brilliant 18.47 while another V50 athlete, Darren Easter, had a sterling run with 19.14, his best this year.

Aidan Howard, 14, lowered his sub-20 from earlier this year with 19.37. Hanley Angell ran a solid 19.38 as he consistently performs well.

Lee Richardson was another to achieve a PB, with 19.39, which is a huge road 5k PB of a minute.

Olivia Ord recorded her best 5k run in some time at only 13 with 21.02 and a fantastic return to her form.

Rob Gosnell nursed a hamstring injury but still managed sub 22 with 21.50.

Evie Clayton, 16, ran an impressive 21.56, post GCSE revision affecting training.

Newcomer Flynn Angell, 14, had a brilliant run in only his second 5k race, and given the crowds, did very well to skim his PB with 24.08.

It is not a race for the faint-hearted and the club was proud of the athletes for not only smashing goals but also the encouragement given to others, particularly the club’s juniors, who all benefit from the experience and wisdom of the older runners.
