West Norfolk athlete wins bronze at Welsh Championships

West Norfolk Athletic Club’s Alfie Williams was on the podium at the Welsh National Athletics Championships last weekend.The action took place over two days at the Cardiff International Sports Campus in the Welsh capital.Some rare sunshine was on offer to brighten the performances as some big names in the sport turned out in force.West Norfolk brothers Alfie and Charlie Williams were throwing in the discus and shot put in the hope of silverware – and in the shot Alfie didn’t disappoint.He finished third to win the bronze medal with a 14.75m put, just 28 centimetres shy of silver.The gold went to UK number two and Welsh number one Pat Swan and the silver to Gareth Winter.In the discus, Alfie was just outside the Welsh medals as he finished fourth. Charlie struggled to find the form in the shot and finished eighth, but in the discus he was close to personal best in a talent-packed final, finishing a respectable sixth place with a 38.45m throw.Some big events are on the horizon for the brothers, including the National League and England Senior Championships.
