The opening weekend of the Mid Norfolk Youth League girls’ football season saw brand new entrants Weeting Saxon come away with the spoils against a strong u14 Gaywood side
It was a game of two halves, with Gaywood bossing the early exchanges and deservedly taking the lead through an Elizabeth West-Burnham strike.
Weeting changes at the break made a real difference to proceedings though, with the equalizer coming through Imogene Meen following some strong work down the wing.
Some excellent goalkeeping looked like it may keep the scores level, but Meen was able to grab her second of the game to secure all three points on the club’s league debut.
In the U12 division, Terrington Tigers travelled to Heacham, whilst new side for 2023/24, Kings Lynn
Soccer Club (KLSC) hosted Watlington.
Terrington were on the right side of a 9-1 scoreline with Aaliyah Dennis, Alise Senina, Keelee Wright and Mia Choppen bagging their goals, whilst Evelyn Brennock grabbed the Heacham consolation.
Watlington goalscorers Evie Drew, Taylor De Nobriga, Lacey Dye, Chloe Murfitt, Tia Rowland, Brooke Vintila and Keira World sent a message to the rest of the league, sealing a 17-0 win on the day.
The two sides in defeat showed plenty of promise though, with complimentary words towards them both and their expected growth as the season progresses.
The Mid Norfolk Youth League would also like to welcome the Watlington U14 team to the competition, and are also excited for the first outing of their U10’s this coming Saturday.
