Fakenham Town are the new leaders of the Thurlow Nunn Premier Division as the title race took another twist this afternoon.The Ghosts were convincing 5-1 winners at Hadleigh United, while an injury-time penalty robbed previous leaders Downham Town of all three points in a 2-2 draw at Walsham le Willows.Fakenham’s seventh straight win takes them to the summit on 73 points with two games to go and Downham Town drop two places to third on 71 points.Brantham Athletic – 3-2 home winners over Yarmouth – remain second in the standings on goal difference to the Ghosts.Hadleigh took a shock lead from the penalty spot before the Ghosts eventually showed their class to take the three points.Goal machine Jake Watts took his goal tally for the campaign to 40 goals with a brace.Lewis Sturman, Charlie Mayhew and Dylan Coslett also found the back of the net. A strong first-half display saw Simon Bird give Downham a 1-0 advantage at Walsham le Willows. The hosts pegged Downham back three minutes into the second half before the visitors regained the lead thanks to a brilliant strike from Dylan Kirk.Downham had looked set for another three points, and it was a case of as you were in the table until a late penalty saw the home side rescue a point against Dale Stokes’ side.Fakenham travel to Long Melford next Saturday and finish with a home derby against Dereham Town on Easter Monday.Downham Town are Yarmouth Town next weekend and end with a home derby against Heacham on the Monday.
