Five of Terrington St Clement Running Club’s newest runners have completed possibly their toughest running journey by getting off the couch to run a 5k.The runners recently finished the latest nine-week Couch to 5k (C25k) course run by the club. This is the third C25K course run by the club since it started three years ago.The five who graduated this year are Jane Kendle, Kelly Whitworth, Janet McCarthy, Charlie Cooper and Katie Shirley.Undeterred by unseasonably wet weather at the start of the weekly sessions, the novice runners battled through their challenges to complete the course. Not stopping there, they have also continued to regularly attend the Thursday club night runs from the pavilion in the village. They have also started running at the popular King’s Lynn Parkrun on Saturday mornings and some have shown their progress by ringing the handbell at the end of a run to mark a new personal best time. Tim Aske, himself a previous C25k graduate, led the group throughout the course. On leading the group, he said: “Having joined a C25k group at the club last year, it was great to give something back to other people at the start of their journey, as well as some returning to running after a gap.”Other club members supported the group throughout, with Kerry Buttriss and her daughter Darcey, regularly helping each week.On the final run of the course, the graduates were joined by a number of the club’s runners and were presented with medals to recognise their achievements. The club will aim to run another C25K group in the future as well as the regular Thursday evening runs, which start at 6:45pm.
