King’s Lynn Town are sitting pretty in sixth place of the National League North table after a hard-fought win at Marine this afternoon.Adam Lakeland’s side made it three wins out of four this season when assistant manager Sam Walker came off the bench to score a wonderful free-kick winner in Merseyside. The Linnets are just one point off the top and could hit top spot with a home victory over Peterborough Sports on Bank Holiday Monday. In Crosby this afternoon, Ross Carne nearly gave Lynn a dream start when he hit the woodwork after just two minutes with a half-volley, but keeper Paul Jones had to keep his team in the game with an excellent save ten minutes later.Fouls from both sides didn’t allow the game to get into any sort of pattern after that and the two sides went in goalless at the break.Just as in the first half, Lynn hit the woodwork in the opening seconds of the next 45, Josh Hmami seeing his 30-yard effort smash the crossbar after 46 minutes, with teammates arguing it had crossed the line.Jonny Margetts went close on the hour with a shot that just cleared the bar from a tight angle but Lynn secured all three points 11 minutes from the end when sub Sam Walker found the top corner of the net from a free kick 20 yards out. Downham took the lead after 20 minutes following some great link-up play and doubled the score before the break. Berkane fired The Ards back into the game after 61 minutes, but the visitors restored their two-goal lead almost immediately and made it 4-1 12 minutes from time. Also in Thurlow Premier action, fourth place Fakenham Town entertained early leaders Walsham le Willows and went down to a battling 2-1 defeat. The Ghosts took an early lead against the Suffolk side but the visitors hit back straight away through Ethan Garcia before KIeran Twinn lobbed home the second after 30 minutes.
