West Norfolk AC was proud to have six athletes representing Norfolk recently in the regional finals of the Sportshall indoor athletics for juniors up to the u15 age group. After recent successes in the leagues and the county champs, athletes are chosen to represent their county in some events they are familiar with but also new events such as paarluff relays and balance tests. In the under-11 group, both Sofia Gilboy and James Watts were selected. The U11 girls came out victorious while the U11 boys were only just pushed into second place by Essex.Watts was second overall on the speed bounce and formed part of the relay teams and Sofia outright won the chest push with a PB of 7.25 as well as a PB in the triple jump. The U11 teams didn’t progress any further to a national round. In the U13s, Luke Anderson and Matas Petreikis both represented the boys’ team. They both maintained their winnings streaks with Matas leading the long jump in 2m22 and Anderson first in the six-lap, as well as fourth in the long jump and both taking part in relays. Their team also won and will move on to the national final in April. With a few men down the u15 team were hard pushed to progress but Aidan Howard did as many events as possible with sixth place in the shot as his highest result and a PB in the long jump of 2m20.Overall, he was placed 13th as an individual.Anya Faithorn finished up the West Norfolk athletes with a sterling performance and was second individually on the day, with her team also winning and moving on to the nationals. Faithorn performed well across all events with her best score in the speed bounce of 78 and a big 2.15 long jump.Well done to all of the West Norfolk athletes representing the county and best of luck to those moving forward to the nationals in a few weeks. An addition to last week’s report, Jacob Green also took part in last week’s Shouldham cross county and at only eight had another stellar performance in the u9 800m race, finishing in 3.35 for 12th place.
