A treble from Sam Twiston-Davies highlighted Fakenham’s second jumps meeting of the season, the Greene King Race Day, with a substantial half-term holiday crowd in attendance. On a mixed afternoon for the jockey, he was unseated on the co-favourite Laser Focus in the opening Hurdle Race over two miles and four furlongs and his mount Jubilant collapsed under him after the last hurdle in the fifth race of the day – but the horse was revived and trotted away to the applause of the crowd.More significantly he won the Fillies Juvenile Hurdle over two miles on the odds-on favourite Opec, trained in Newmarket by James Owen, getting the best of his only challenger Window Of Time to pull away up the home straight by eight lengths. The double was achieved in the PRA Prize Money Plaque to Fakenham Chase over two miles and half a furlong. With horses Delpotro and Nevendon vying for the win, Twiston-Davies’ mount River Gold dashed past them both to take the main prize by two lengths in a remarkable finish. The treble was achieved in the final race of the afternoon, the Riding A Dream Academy Novices Hurdle over another two miles.Riding top weight Mavis Pike for his father Nigel, Sam held on well to beat Dreams Fled Away under James Best by three lengths.
