King’s Lynn Town manager Mark Hughes and his assistant Adrian Whirbread have been left with a major rebuilding job at The Walks after three players announced their departures from the club tonight.
Midfielder Theo Widdrington has been sold for an undisclosed fee to an anonymous club while Aaron Jones and Tai Fleming have also left.
It is believed that Widdrington will link-up with his dad Tommy at National League Premier Side Aldershot while Jones is being linked with a move down the A17 to Boston United and Fleming has signed for Banbury United.
With Michael Clunan, Tyler Denton, Gold Omotayo, Ben Siggers, Zain Walker, Jack Morrell having already left before this evening, Lynn have lost a total of nine players from the squad that finished second in the National League North last season.
Jones: “After five incredible years I’ve made the very difficult decision to leave King’s Lynn Town.
“Throughout my time at The Walks, I have met some remarkable people, managers who believed in me, team-mates who have become lifelong friends, backroom staff who went above and beyone and fans who have shown me unwavering support.
“Together we have achieved the lot, back-to-back promotions, the transition from part-time to full-time, FA Cup triumphs and plenty of unforgettable moments along the way.
“I am very proud to have made 167 appearances for this great club and to be named in the National League North Team of the season this year was an honour.
“Thanks to everyone connected with the club and I wish you all the very best for next season.”
On his departure, Widdrington took to Twitter to say: “Just want to say thank you to everyone involved at
King’s Lynn Town as my time comes to an end, from the fans all the way through to the management and chairman.
“But a special mention to the players. I’ve made some friends for life. All the best going forward.”
On a positive note, defender Kyle Callan-McFadden has agreed to extend his contract for a further year.
The 28-year-old missed a large part of last season because of injury, but played a big part in the second half of the season, with the Linnets falling just short of claiming the second automatic promotion spot in the play-offs.
“I am glad to get the deal over the line,” said McFadden.
“I’m looking forward to working under the gaffer and Adrian (Whitbread) and hopefully putting last year’s wrongs right.
Lynn boss Mark Hughes said: “Kyle played a pivotal role in the latter part of the season in our defence.
“He is a leader and someone everyone in the division would like in their team. I’m delighted he has agreed a new contract with the club.”
