Ryston Runners club vests popped up in a variety of places and events last weekend.Furthest flung were the two club members competing in the Cracovia Marathon in Krakow, Poland, both of whom recorded PBs.The outstanding PB of the weekend was achieved by Thomas Semmons, whose 3:15:29 constituted a resounding improvement of one hour and five minutes. As his previous best was set in 2021, this represents a reduction of over 15 minutes a year, which bodes well for the other Ryston Runner in the same race, Jake Whitehouse, whose 3:27:23 was itself a 15-minute improvement over his previous PB.At the Run for All City of Lincoln 10K, Gareth Hunt was another to reap the benefits of consistent and committed training, recording a PB of 37:51 (120th/90thSM), and Will Honeybone placed 311th/24th M50 in 41:18.The same distance at Trowse saw Martin Elsegood finish in 637th place/41st M55 in 69:19.Closer to home, over the marathon distance, Leonie Stimson ran a PB of 4:17:53 in Brighton. The first Athletics Norfolk Open Meeting of the season opened the weekend at Norwich Sportspark on Friday. Two of Ryston’s most enthusiastic and committed Junior athletes made their mark, with Isaac Western placing 1st in the U13B 200m and 2nd over 100m, while Freddie Hubbard won the U13B 1500m and was placed third in the high and long jumps. In the U20 age group, Miles Hovell won the javelin with 38m 33, and Ella Godring was second over 100m with 13.13 secs.Gavin Reynolds won the M40 100m and 200m, while Nathan Stockdale was placed third SM in a very competitive 1500m, clocking a PB of 4:19.84.Reynolds was also one of three Ryston members who have just qualified as coaching assistants to add to the club’s support base for their junior athletes, the other two being Amy Burrowes and Kat Western, whose sons, Freddie and Isaac, along with Gavin’s daughter Freya, are prime examples of what commitment and enthusiasm can do to improve as an athlete.
