King’s Lynn Town manager Adam Lakeland says his side are ready for the new National League North season – and feels his team will only get stronger as the campaign plays out.The Linnets host Warrington Town at The Walks with a new wave of optimism sweeping through the club.Lakeland said: “It’s a long season and I think what we will do is keep on getting better as the season goes along.”There’s a lot of things that we can improve upon but every team at this stage will be saying the same.”We’ve just got to keep working hard as we do day by day, and it has allowed us to experiment quite a lot in pre-season.”We’ve had nine games and the majority of the first team group have played or been involved in eight of those nine, where we’ve looked at different systems and we’ve looked at different combinations. Some things have worked well, some things haven’t been so good, but that’s the beauty of pre-season games.”Last season is now water under the bridge, but the Lynn boss knows his side will be judged on how they perform in the months ahead. The new management team didn’t come into the building until October, but Lynn can ill-afford a start like last term where they picked up just one win in their opening nine league outings. “If you have a bad start, you’re back in a scrap behind you – so it’s up to us, just like every other team will be saying that they want to get off to a decent start,” Lakeland said.”Games at our level are tough and every single one is going to be difficult. I think we’ve got a decent side together now that will compete in every game. We’ve got goals in us which gives us a chance of getting points in a lot of games and we’re as fit as we can be.”The confidence and the togetherness in the group is as strong as I believe it can be at this moment in time, and the only way that that can be enhanced is through winning games of football.” The Linnets chief hopes getting into the winning habit and having a fully committed team on the pitch will encourage fans back through the turnstiles.”Everybody tells me that if we’re putting a hard-working team on the pitch and we’re winning games of football, the numbers will continue to rise here and we’ve certainly got the first part,” he added. “I think everybody has seen in the last two games that we’ve got a team that is going to work tirelessly and give everything for this club.”Hopefully we can convert that into plenty of positive results and we get more people through the turnstiles because that only makes the club stronger. “I was speaking to Backie (Robbie Back) before the game and speaking about games in previous years where there were 4,000 against York the season they went up.”We want those days to return, but we know that we’re still a long way from that and the only way that we can make that happen is through working hard and winning games.”Looking forward to the visit of the Yellows, Lakeland said: “The Warrington game is a very tough first game.”They’re a very well-organised team, very good at transition, and I have a lot of time for their manager as I think he’s done an unbelievable job there.”They’ve got that scouse grit about them. We know it is going to be a tough game but we’ll be as ready as we can be.”
