Terrington St Clement Running Club members have tackled several challenges head-on over the past few months. From running a first 5k race to taking on a first marathon, members have delivered some impressive performances. In February, 14 runners attended the Zig Zag Run for Cake Running Festival.Emily Nichols (0:38:49) completed her first 5k race and Toni Back (2:38:33) ran her first half marathon.John Greenwood suffered an injury but still completed 10k and Tim Aske (2:14:51) ran a planned ten miles.Half marathon finishers were: Shannon Tinkler (PB, 2:28:51), Mark Garrett (PB 1:42:35), Kirsty Slater (2:38:33), Hollie Little (2:47:42), Linda Pepper (2:47:20), Joanna Banaszek (2:04:25), Adam Sherrard (PB, 2:11:05), Helen Garrett (PB, 2:08:29), and Adrian Pepper (2:39:02).Jake Whitehouse (PB, 4:46:40) completed the 50k ultra and finished in first place. As always, this was a fun event and the cake was a well-deserved prize at the end of the run. The Cambridge Half Marathon in March saw warm conditions present the members with a different challenge.Runners found the change in the weather tough but were overall pleased with their performances.Runners from TSCRC were: Martin Stevens (1:27:27), Shannon Tinkler (2:40:05), Joanna Shinn (PB, 2:39:44), Jo Lucas (2:14:13), Linda Pepper (2:39:44), Adrian Pepper (2:34:31) and Claire Whitehouse (2:11:17). At the beginning of April, seven runners from the club ran in the London Landmarks Half Marathon. The runners and their families, who were a terrific support team for all of the runners, stayed in the capital to fully take in the atmosphere for the weekend. Tim Aske (2:56:35) completed his first half-marathon.Aske joined the club’s first Couch to 5k course to help him get back to running and has since led two further C25k courses for the club, showing just what personal goals can be achieved. Other runners were: Helen Garrett (2:09:09), Mark Garrett (1:53:59), Adam Sherrard (PB, 1:59:52), Adrian Pepper (2:12:53), Linda Pepper (2:15:45) and Alan Bartrum (1:53:50), who was back racing just three weeks after completing his course of radiotherapy. This year, the runners individually raised funds for their nominated charities: Royal British Legion, Addenbrooke’s Charitable Trust, Tapping House, MacMillan Cancer Relief, and Alzheimer’s Research UK.At Boston last weekend, Dylan Whitehouse (0:36:30) and Alex Warby (PB 1:04:11) completed the 10k event. In the half-marathon, finishers were Shannon Tinkler (PB 2:20:27), Jo Lucas (PB 2:09:42), Kirsty Slater (2:14:23) and Jo Bartrum (2:09:17), who was competing in her first event of this distance. There were three first-time runners in the marathon: Helen Garrett (4:59:06), Claire Whitehouse (4:59:11) and Hollie Little (5:58:55).After months following their training plans, the distance pushed them all to their limits, but all three gained full respect for their determination to finish with respectable times.Other finishers were Adrian Pepper (5:58:55) and Jake Whitehouse (3:29:18). Whitehouse had an outstanding run, finishing within two minutes of his PB (3:27:23) that he set in the Krakow Marathon a week earlier. The informal running group is pleased to support and cheer along runners who can attend its club nights, held outside the pavillion in Terrington St Clement on Wednesdays at 6:45pm.Now that the clocks have moved forward, the weekly run is around various routes in the village at mixed paces to accommodate all abilities. The running is usually followed by a chance to join in with a friendly chat and to enjoy some cake.
