After more than years of fundraising, Terrington St Clement Tennis Club has just installed a brand new state-of-the-art tennis surface on their courts at Benn’s Lane. The new Tiger Turf surface will play like a grass court but with much lower maintenance requirements. The surface will be softer underfoot and better for the joints of the club members than the previous hard courts whilst also offering more all-weather playability.Club chairman Ian Collison said: ‘We can’t wait to play on our new surface. The old courts have done well but have reached the end of their life so it’s great to see a new surface going down.”This is all thanks to the hard work of our fundraising committee and the generosity of our members and their friends and families who have supported our events. “The Parish Council have also been very supportive of the project and has contributed a new fence to finish off the courts to a very high standard.”The club has a thriving membership with lots of social tennis as well as eight teams playing men’s, mixed and ladies’ tennis in the North West Norfolk League. “This new surface will allow us to take the next step on our journey as a club.”The project was also supported by the West Norfolk Council CIL fund which helped to get the finance in place to complete the project this spring. Sunday will see the grand opening of the new courts. The day will start with a fun tournament in the morning for the club’s junior members. This will be followed by a hog roast and ribbon-cutting ceremony from 12.30 until 1.30pm. The afternoon will see a free open taster session for existing members and any others who would like to come and try the new surface.Rackets and balls will be provided and club coach Bogdan Tsonev will be on hand to offer advice and tips to new players. New or returning players are more than welcome to come along for lunch and the ribbon-cutting ceremony or just pop in during the afternoon for some tennis.Any questions can be sent to: terringtontennis@gmail.com
