Swimmers show their class with Masters medal haul

Fourteen West Norfolk Swimming Club masters swimmers competed at the 10th Newmarket and District Masters Gala.The ages of the swimmers ranged from 18 to 59 and they competed in several races and mixed relay events, gaining numerous medals and personal best times.This was the second year the club has competed at this event, with fantastic performances.In the 18-24 male age group, Rhys Burrell won three gold medals in the 50m breaststroke, 100m breaststroke and individual medley. He was fourth in the 50m butterfly, fifth in 50m backstroke and sixth in 50m freestyle.Harvey Isle won four silver medals in the 100m butterfly, 100m backstroke plus 100m and 200m individual medley. He was fifth in the 50m butterfly and sixth in the 50m backstroke.In the 18-24 female age group, Abigail Nicholson won three gold medals in the 100m butterfly and backstroke, and 50m backstroke. She was fifth in the 100m individual medley and 50m butterfly, plus 10th in the 50m freestyle.Libby Collins won bronze in the 100m individual medley, was sixth places in the 50m butterfly and breaststroke and 11th in 100m breaststroke. Burrell, Isle, Nicholson and Collins won silver in the 72+ mixed medley relay and bronze in the 72+ mixed freestyle relay. In the 25-29 male age group, Nathan Wells won four gold medals in the 50m freestyle, breaststroke, butterfly and backstroke and two golds in the 120-159 mixed medley and freestyle relays.In the 30-34 male age group, Greg Brown won three silver medals in the 50m freestyle and backstroke and 100m freestyle and a bronze medal in the 100m individual medley and golds in the 120-159 mixed medley and freestyle relays.In the 30-34 female age group, Cara Rose won a gold medal in the 100m individual medley and three silver medals in 50m breaststroke and 100m breaststroke and the 100m freestyle plus bronze in the 50m freestyle. In the 35-39 male age group, Howard Mason won a gold medal in the 100m butterfly, silver in the 50m butterfly and a bronze medal in the 100m freestyle plus silver in the 200+ mixed medley relay and fourth in the 200+ mixed freestyle relay.Will Wakefield won silver in the 50m breaststroke and fourth in the 50m freestyle. In the 40-44 female age group, Sian Wells won bronze in the 50m freestyle and fourth in the 200m freestyle plus gold in the 120-159 mixed medley relay.Jurate Smulkiene was fourth in the 50m breaststroke, fifth in the 50m freestyle and sixth in the 100m breaststroke plus two gold medals in the mixed 120-159 medley and freestyle relays. In the 50-54 male age group, Iain Taylor won three bronze medals in the 100m freestyle and breaststroke and 50m breaststroke and fourth in 50m freestyle plus silver in the mixed 200+ medley relay and fourth in the mixed 200+ freestyle relay.In the 55-59 female age group, Tracy Dodds won two gold medals in the 100m and 200m individual medley, was fifth in the 50m breaststroke, silver in the mixed 200+ medley relay and fourth in the 200+ freestyle relay.Cheryl Rose was fifth in the 50m freestyle, seventh in the 50m breaststroke and silver in the mixed 200+ medley relay and fourth in the 200+ freestyle relay.
