Outwell Swifts suffered North Cambs Junior Cup heartache this evening.
The Cambridgeshire CSI 3B leaders lost 4-1 against Whittlesey Athletic Reserves at Wisbech Town’s Fountain Fresh Park.
Swifts, who were unable to reproduce the levels of their semi-final win over Wisbech Town Reserves, conceded twice in the opening 15 minutes.
And any hopes of getting back into the tie were dashed Whittlesey added a third 12 minutes before the interval.
The Dor-Jan Windows & Doors Peterborough & District Football League Division One leaders added a fourth goal 16 minutes after the restart before Swifts netted a consolation five minutes from time.
Lewie Rawson and Mark Secker’s side remain on the brink of making it back-to-back promotions as they hold a six-point lead at the top of the table going into their final eight games of the season.
