Fletcher Toll has put pen to paper on a contract with Northern Premier League Midlands Division Corby Town. The former Heacham and Downham Town frontman has taken his move up to Step 4 in his stride this season, finding the back of the net nine times in the Steelmen’s opening 12 games. His form in front of goal for the league leaders has attracted the attention of several clubs higher up the pyramid, including Corby Town’s Northamptonshire neighbours Kettering Town in the Southern League Central Premier.Corby Town boss Gary Setchell said: “We’ve had interest from other clubs and there has been plenty of noise.”I met with Fletch and his family and we discussed his options.“We agreed at this moment in time that Corby, where he is scoring, improving, loving his football and making a name for himself is the best place for him right now.”The 20-year-old frontman registered 40 goals in the Thurlow Nunn Premier Division last term and has now found the back of the net 81 times since stepping into senior football at the age of 18. His progress has been nothing short of incredible and the Corby boss admits it has come as a welcome surprise. “Fletcher has settled in unbelievably well from day one and has hit the ground running,” said Setchell.”He plays and trains like he is enjoying his football. I always knew he would score goals at this level but perhaps not at the rate he has.”I always thought he may have come on strong after two or three months and if he does then he could hit some big numbers as he had a great start to the season.” Setchell is convinced there is more to come from the youngster, who arrived at Steel Park over the summer.”His all-round game is strong but we have talked about the improvements he can make and he has already made good progress in those areas. “The natural thing for Fletcher is goalscoring. He can do that in many ways as he already scored headers, tap-ins, lobs, penalties and a chip.”We all know that Corby Town is not going to be his end goal but hopefully we can achieve a bit of success together over the next 18 to 20 months and see where it takes him.”
