King’s Lynn youngster Luke Harrison has admitted his step up into the Premiership put him on a steep learning curve.

The 18-year-old Harrison ended up racing in over half of the Stars’ senior fixtures, with his involvement with the club originally having been intended to be restricted just to the National Development Trophy.

But when Lynn found themselves with a vacancy in the No. 7 position due to injury and then the retirement of Ashton Boughen, both Harrison and his Young Stars team-mate Jody Scott stepped in to fill the gap.

And as the club reached the transfer window cut-off, Harrison took the spot on a full-time basis, something he says presented further challenges on an organisational level.

Harrison said: “This league has been a whole new world compared to the other ones I race in.

“It’s been all about me getting as much information off other riders and learning as much as I can.

“Since I first came into the Stars team, I think there has been quite a lot of improvement, and that’s also been reflected in some of my scores in the Championship.

“I’ve got to thank my dad and mechanic, especially because since we picked up the Premiership there’s been a lot of work.

“I’ve been riding three or four times a week every week so that’s made things really busy, so a big thank you to them.”

Harrison, who represented Great Britain at European Under-19 level earlier this month, has one major meeting remaining on his calendar this year, which is the British Under-19 Final.

It takes place at Workington on September 28, and after finishing second to Ace Pijper in last year’s event at Oxford, he admits there’s only one more step to take.

He added: “That should be a good one. I’m only going there for one thing, and that’s to win, so hopefully I can do that!”

Meanwhile, the club are preparing for their own final meeting of the season, the Young Stars Pride of the East, which takes place at the Adrian Flux Arena on Thursday, October 2.
