King’s Lynn boss Rob Lyon says some inconsistency was always expected – but he believes his team can still do more to help themselves. It’s been tough to get a full read on Stars’ prospects for this season, especially because their two home matches in the league have both been heavily affected by an unusual number of bike issues. That cost them a win over champions Belle Vue, although they did do just enough to see off Leicester last time out.On the road Stars have struggled with heavy defeats at Belle Vue and Sheffield, but both are regarded as amongst the toughest venues to visit, and Lynn are yet to visit any of the tracks where they could realistically target an away win.Lyon said: “Obviously as our team is built so solid we’re going to get inconsistencies, that’s the whole point of the team being a solid outfit with those averages.“But we’re a little bit too inconsistent at times, and we need to just try and iron those out for next time.“There were several mechanical problems against Leicester and we need to unfathom all of those again, because we lost so many points although we still managed to get the win on that occasion. “We had a team meeting midway through that match, and I think that was fruitful to be honest, because the track was a little different in the early stages.” The latest on Ben Cook’s injury is that the Australian has had surgery on his fractured wrist and expects to have stitches removed next week. But his time out of action is likely to extend to a period of six to eight weeks, meaning the Stars are unlikely to see him until June at the earliest. They have booked GB star Tom Brennan to guest for Cook in next Monday’s home clash with Oxford at the Adrian Flux Arena, but Cook’s average will then fall and the options become more restricted. One possible option for a short-term injury replacement is off the table as former Stars captain Lewis Kerr, who was without a Premiership club, has this week joined Sheffield as part of a team restructure following the serious injuries sustained by Tai Woffinden in Poland. It’s a busy 48 hours at the AFA next week as the Oxford match is followed 48 hours later by the Young Stars making their home bow in the National Development Trophy against Birmingham, having won at Perry Barr earlier this month.
