St Neots Ladies 2nd 1, Pelicans Ladies 6

Pelicans made the early morning trip to St Neots to face a side bottom of the East Division 2NW.

The game started off slowly, with the Pelicans not performing to their usual standard. A few shots towards goal were looking promising, but the visitors were struggling to put them away.

Late on in the first half, St Neots went 1-0 up after catching the Pelicans on the counter. This ignited the Pelicans to settle into their own game.

Pelicans managed to equalise just before the half time whistle, with a goal from captain Jane Proctor, a shot which went over the keeper from a deflection off a St Neots defender.

All things level at half time, Pelicans piled pressure onto the home side as soon as play restarted, with a skilled run into the D from Kiona Sequeira who rocketed the ball into the net to break the deadlock.

A shot on goal from Clair Morton was saved but was followed up with tap-in from Jessica Williams to send the Pelicans 3-1 up.

Sequeira slotted the ball past the keeper to make it 4-1 and then Karise Sherry picked the ball up, reverse pushing it into the goal where the goalie and defender missed it and it rolled over the line. The sixth and final goal was sent in to smash the backboard by Proctor.

Player of the match goes to Savannah Sherry, who held her own in the game against a difficult opposition. Next week the ladies go on the road again to Long Sutton.
