Pelicans ladies ended a run of three successive defeats in emphatic style at the weekend as they put Lincolnshire rivals Spalding to the sword in a one-sided affair.

The goals flowed as the team thrashed newly-relegated Spalding 1s 7-2 on their visit to Alive Lynnsport.

Pelicans dominated the East Women’s Division 2 North West encounter from start to finish – much to the delight of captain Jane Proctor.

Proctor said: “After a tough defeat last week this was an excellent bounce back from the team.

“It was a great team performance, showing that hard work pays off.

“We produced some amazing team goals and picked up a well deserved win.”

Hannah Howes started off the rout early on in the first half, slotting the ball comfortably past the Spalding goalkeeper.

Kiona Sequeira fired a first-time shot into the backboard to double Pelicans advantage, and followed it up with another shot a couple of minutes later which ripped through the net of the goal.

The rampant home side found themselves 5-0 up at half-time, with a reverse tap-in coming from defender-turned-forward Kathryn Hainsworth.

Hannah Howes helped herself to a quickfire double after following up on her shot which rebounded off the keeper.

Pelicans conceded two goals from short corners early on in the first half, but looked comfortable enough in open play to secure the victory

Proctor added to her growing goal tally by netting twice in the second half to keep her excellent scoring record going.

Player-of-the-match went to Hannah Howes for her determination throughout the game.

The victory leaves Pelicans sitting seventh in the league standings with ten points from their opening eight fixtures.

Pelicans will be looking to build on their win when they travel to St Neots 2nds on Saturday.
