West Norfolk karting king Jenson Sayell extended his lead after returning to Kimbolton for the eighth round of the Hunts Kart Racing Club Championship at the weekend.
Fastest in Sunday’s warm-up session, Sayell worked his way up to second in the opening heat before he was hit on the first corner.
By the time he rejoined the race, there was no time to catch the pack and he eventually finished sixth.
The youngster took the chequered flag in heat two after starting third on the grid and he repeated his success with another race victory in his third outing.
The heat results put Sayell on pole for the final and his team decided to make conservative changes to kart set up with rain on the horizon.
It proved to be a good choice as the rain increased during the race.
Sayell got the lead from pole and gradually pulled away to be 4.7 seconds ahead at the flag, celebrating his mum’s birthday with a salute to her over the line.
His latest success extended his championship lead and his dad Rob said: “Sunday was a test of Jenson’s driving skills in both very hot and later very wet conditions, he just proved again how he can handle and adapt to all conditions. So proud of him”
The previous weekend, the Marshland St James driver had taken part in The Cadet Kart Championship at Whilton Mill as a guest entry for their last round.
Sayell started 31st on the grid and was pipped to pole by just 0.012 seconds by Alfie Mair.
Three solid drives saw the race ace finish second in all three of his heats.
It all went wrong in the final after heavy rain beforehand and, after getting away well from the front row, Sayell spun in turn and dropped down to 31st.
Struggling with the kart handling, he was forced to call it a day three laps later.
“With the Super One series ended we we decided to enter as a guest driver at the CKC (Cadet Kart Championship),” revealed dad Rob.
“With a massive 33 karts on the grid it was going to be a busy one and I was really pleased for Jenson qualifying in second and taking second in the three heats.
“It was a great shame we got tangled up and spun on the third corner but all in all it was a fantastic weekend.”
Sayell has a break now before Round 9 of 11 Hunts Kart Club Championship.
