West Norfolk karting ace Jenson Sayell consolidated his runner-up place in the penultimate round of the Hunts Karting Racing championship at Kimbolton. The Marshland St James driver picked up some good points ahead of the final round next month.Kimbolton’s Round Nine saw another strong grid with several top teams booked in.Grid places for the two Heats were drawn, with Sayell starting 19th for Heat One.He made an excellent start making up ten places on lap one, and continued to overtake rapidly to finish fifth.Starting second for Heat Two he made a good start but had to take evasive action on the first lap dropping to sixth. He made it up to fourth but eventually finished sixth with just 1.4 seconds separating the top seven karts. The Final looked promising with a great start from fifth but he was knocked off track on the first lap rejoining in twelfth. The race length had been reduced so having made it back up to seventh he was unable to close the gap further.Sayell’s father and mechanic Rob said: “Up against a high quality of drivers Jenson was on the pace, it was a shame to be knocked off the track in the final as a top result was definitely on the cards.“Sponsor Jordan Kendal of JLK Vehicle Solutions knows the Kimbolton circuit well having raced karts there himself. He watched Sayell at the previous round and is impressed, saying: “Being fast is one thing, being able to race at the top level week after week is another.”You need to perform under immense pressure and Jenson delivers again and again. He has such a wise head on his shoulders for just 11 years of age. “Whilst fiercely competitive on the track, off track he is very popular with fellow racers due to his kind nature. For all these reasons I am committed to sponsoring Jenson long term.”Sayell also had a recent outing at Whilton Mill. With a grid of 32 karts for the final round of the Whilton Mill Club Championship, as a guest, he had to start the qualifying session behind the rest of the grid and qualified a respectable ninth. Two challenging heats saw Sayell fight hard finishing eighth and ninth.Starting ninth for the final he made good headway and was challenging for fifth place on the final lap when knocked sideways throwing the kart into the air.Despite this, he recovered quickly to finish a credible sixth. “It was nice to do another round at Whilton Mill as it is not one of our regular tracks. Jenson was on the pace on a tough grid,” said father Rob.Sayell thanks Force Motorsport his engine builder and all sponsors including local companies JLK, Ark East Anglia Ltd, Hall Clean, Professional Aesthetic Enhancements Kings Lynn and Sun Lounge for their continued support.Next up for the youngster is a trip to Kart Mania at Silverstone to collect his SuperOne InterMax Champion Trophy before the final round of the HKRC championship at Kimbolton in December.
