Snettisham Beach Sailing Club has launched its new Accessible Sailing Facilities.Accessible sailing is about inclusion and can accommodate a variety of needs.Commodore Adrian Tebbutt said: “We can mix and match gentle cruising, hands-on sailing or formal training to suit individual needs, and welcome groups or single participants.”Parents and/or carers are welcome to share the experience.”All essential safety equipment is supplied – you just need suitable clothing for the weather.”Taster sessions are planned for potential users and groups in September and October ahead of the full programme of sessions which will run from April to October 2025.Wendy, the mum of Alex who has Down’s Syndrome, said: “Sailability gave Alex the confidence to have a go at sailing in 2015, aged nine. “Years later we discovered Snettisham Beach Sailing Club, with a great team that gave Alex a go like any other kid, never underestimating him and always encouraging him, patiently and respectfully. “We never have to fight Alex’s corner here, it’s unique! Everywhere else people always assume he can’t, Snettisham Beach SC always assume he can, proud parents indeed.”Les, a stroke victim, said: “I never thought I would go sailing again. These facilities and the help from the club have made this possible again – fantastic.”The club is looking to recruit a team of regular volunteers – full training will be offered – to support the accessible sailing, so please contact us if you would like to get involved. To find out more about Accessible Sailing or the club in general, please contact Adrian commodore.sbsc@gmail.com or visit: https://www.snetbeach .co.uk/
