The mega-mileage efforts by members of Ryston Runners AC in last week’s media omitted to mention the exploits of Bem Elmer, Andy Williamson, and Dan Yallop, who ran the Peak District Birthday BashThe Ryston endurance trio competed in the race over 35k with 4500 ft elevation, from Castleton, via the Great Ridge to Lord’s Seat, before meandering through the hills that from the western edge of the national park, via Hayfield, Kinder Scout, Jacob’s Ladder, and Edale, before returning circuitously, to Castleton.Elmer finished in 4:29:06, in 20th position, Williamson in 23rd in 4:46:07 23rd and Yallop 45th in 5:20:52.The following weekend, Elmer and Williamson repeated their ultra exploits, spending Good Friday doing 5K laps on a course around Brandon Country Park in the Zigzag Easter six-hour Challenge.Elmer finished first overall with 13 laps (just over a marathon) in a time of 06:14:16 while Williamson finished 11th, the fastest person to 50k (10 laps) in 4:52:11.Between these two events, the Great Yarmouth Seafront five-mile Series kicked off on Wednesday, with just one Ryston Runner deeming the trip across the county worth it for the race.Club vice-chairman Adam Matthews made his journey count and was placed fourth overall and second SM in 27:59.
