Dersingham A’s cup run continued with a strong 2-0 win over league rivals Reffley. All four teams, playing at the Dersingham Pastures, impeccably observed a minute’s silence before their games on Saturday in honour of the Dersingham club legend, “Baz” Barry Hopkins, who died suddenly last week.Dersingham got off to a solid start and immediately began to apply pressure to the opposition, pushing high up the pitch and creating chances. The Dersingham defence, once again, looked well-organised and hard to break down, continuing their impressive work from last week.Dersingham had multiple chances to take the lead before the break but couldn’t convert, and perhaps a sense of the inevitable began to creep in at the break. But when the second half began, it was more of the same as Dersingham continued to press and create opportunities. The deadlock was finally broken from a set-piece when Kris Smith was found at the front post with a strong header to give Dersingham the lead. Dersingham’s defence stood up strong to a Reffley fightback and had to see off a few half-chances. The home side showed continued commitment and work rate and were eventually rewarded 10 minutes from the end.Nathan Mitchell’s incredible diagonal pass found Sonny Devlin free at the back post, who notched for his 12th of the season to send Dersingham As to the League Cup final.A fantastic, committed performance spurred on in the memory of Barry Hopkins sees the As in the League Cup final, where they will face another league rival, Terrington. Baz would have been proud, and there would have been plenty of banter after the game. The game was well controlled by the referee, Leonard Pearson.Dersingham Man of the Match: Callum Swan for a great shift in defence.Reffley Man of the Match: Jamie Plummer.
